What Happened to the Whole English Thing?
From our look at the white settlement of Australia in term 1, we can all safely assume that the British threw out Indigenous culture on their arrival in the sunburnt country. But then shouldn't our identity be British? But it is not.
We like our beer cold.
Tea is not our 'go to' drink.
And our football code is AFL not Rugby (in victoria anyway).
So why the difference?
Well first of all there was a little issue with adaptation. It is hard to keep an English kitchen garden when you are not sure if and when it is going to rain. And it is hard to stomach warm/hot drinks on 35 degree days.
And of course it has been a long time since the majority of 'official' Australian's were British descendants.
But there is another reason.
A more sinister reason.
A reason I like to call...
