Then how come politicians like to label things 'Unaustralian'. A LOT of things.
National identity is a shared sense of being and belonging. We all like to feel that we belong somewhere and that we have a place in the world. Often a person’s country helps to create that sense of belonging.
National identity can mean different things to different people, particularly in a multicultural nation such as Australia. An Indigenous Australian, a third-generation Australian and a recent immigrant may all view the nation in subtly different ways. National identity creates strong bonds among people and stimulates progress and national prosperity. However, taken to extremes, it can become dangerous and even harmful.
